ABOUT
ABOUT
Abigail Louisa is a Maryland-based metalsmith and jewelry artist whose work examines the emotional realities of women’s daily lives. Using metal as a narrative medium, she engages with both culturally sanctioned emotions, such as love and adoration, and the quieter yet pervasive experiences of discomfort and rage.
My work functions as a series of love letters - to family, to women, and to the material itself - giving form to adoration alongside discomfort, grief, rage, and longing. Drawing from my experience as a woman in the 21st century, I reflect on the tension between hope and disillusionment, progress and regression, control and its absence. I often incorporate recognizable forms such as celestial shapes and hearts, symbols tied to memory, femininity, and connection. Celestial imagery references my belief that women are deeply connected to the universe. I am drawn to metal for its strength, malleability, and capacity to show wear over time, much like the bodies and relationships jewelry adorns. Through wearable objects, I create intimate expressions of love, mourning, and resilience meant to be carried forward.
